Closed Coat Silicon Carbide Material, Suitable for Polishing & Sharpening. Silicon Carbide removes material more quickly than aluminum oxide but wears more quickly.
The most common use is for metal substrates and wet sanding to remove large scratches left by dry sanding. It is used to give a mirror like finish to 3D finished parts, burr removal on machined metal parts, for car paint jobs, guitars, violins and other fine musical instruments, rust removal from metal surfaces, knife and blade sharpening.
At the higher grits it can be used in conjunction with polishing and rubbing compounds to achieve a scratch free finish. Wet sanding produces less dust than dry sanding, thus longer sandpaper life and smoother surface finishes than dry sanding.
